Mike’s Hot Honey Taps Soccer Fever with Multichannel Chicago Campaign

Mike’s Hot Honey has launched an experiential multichannel campaign designed to push its chilli-infused condiment beyond pizza and into everyday experimentation. The campaign, which went live on 1 July, pairs the brand with soccer club Chicago Fire FC and extends its established “Drizzle The Mike’s” platform.

A Brand Platform Built Around Cultural Moments

The “Drizzle The Mike’s” platform positions the brand at culturally relevant moments, and this latest effort leans into soccer’s growing popularity in the United States. The campaign will run across CTV, social media, digital channels and online video, with Seedtag’s AI technology placing creative during key cultural moments spanning food, sports and entertainment.

At the heart of the campaign sits a short-form video starring musician and actor Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter. The film follows a young adult competing for the role of “The Drizzler” at a Brooklyn pizzeria, drizzling hot honey on everything from pizza to gelato under Trotter’s guidance. James Poyser, Trotter’s bandmate in The Roots, composed the score. Creative agency Another Thing developed the video, with Two One Five producing and Anthony Jamari Thomas directing.

Chicago Fire FC Partnership Anchors the Activation

Mike’s Hot Honey began as a pizza topping at Paulie Gee’s pizzeria in Brooklyn in 2010, and the brand is now taking its story to another city famous for pizza. Through its Chicago Fire FC partnership, the brand will host activations including a “Drizzle Cam” and produce custom player content filmed at Pizz’Amici, a local pizzeria.

The brand will also maintain a presence at Soldier Field through LED boards, video signage and concourse placements, alongside concession integrations such as a “Cocktail of the Match”. An integration with Apple TV+, home of MLS coverage and the Chicago Fire FC series “Inside The Fire”, extends the partnership into streaming.

Sampling Meets Commerce Measurement

To drive trial where consumption actually happens, Mike’s Hot Honey is placing campaign messaging and product samples inside Chicago pizza boxes during peak ordering windows and summer pizza occasions. Digital support runs across TikTok, Meta and YouTube, while integrations with Instacart, DoorDash, Search and TikTok Shop connect awareness activity to measurable engagement and sales. Independent media agency Noble People is leading the media and cultural strategy.

Riding the Swicy Wave

The campaign arrives as Mike’s Hot Honey works to move hot honey from trend to pantry staple. The brand has expanded use cases through partnerships including hot honey flavours of Bush’s Grillin’ Beans and Utz chips, plus a successful limited-time offering with KFC.

Hot honey sits within the broader “swicy” trend, blending sweet and spicy flavours that resonate strongly with Gen Z consumers. Chipotle revived its Chipotle Honey Chicken in April following a successful 2025 run, underlining how mainstream the flavour profile has become. For Mike’s Hot Honey, pairing cultural relevance with in-home sampling looks like a calculated play for lasting category leadership.
